Ethos Architects has worked with the Southeastern Oklahoma Library System to explore options for the future of the McAlester Library, including the potential redevelopment of a historic downtown building and the renovation of the existing mid-century facility. After evaluating these concepts, the team developed design solutions to modernize the existing library, a distinctive trapezium-shaped building situated on a steep hill. Proposed renovations reimagine the interior to better serve the community, with spaces for gathering, studying, working and a potential business incubator. Design concepts range from a contemporary glass addition extending from the existing structure to a more subtle renovation that reclaims space beneath the building’s overhang. The project reflects a commitment to creating a welcoming, flexible library that supports the evolving needs of the McAlester community.
